Acknowledgment in the light
Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man! Luke
It is Simon Peter coming with this outbreak when he sees who Jesus
are - sees His holiness.
He thinks, as any natural human being as they get in near contact
with the holy, that I cannot stand, faced with this - so sinful that
As long as a human being lives at a distance, or totally away from
this light, it can have very high thoughts about ones own excellence -
also when it comes to morality - but as holiness moves close to it, it
is the end of all such high thoughts. Peter fell down before His feet,
it says, and only because of a little glimpse!
John the apostle, who got a vision of the Holy one as He really is,
on the island of Patmos, fall down before Him as dead! (Rev.
We shall notice in the present case, that what Jesus uses to rise
the apostle up again from this contrite state, was: Do not be afraid! -
Followed bywords about Jesus task here on earth - His act to salvation!
Jesus used the same in Peters case here - a: Do not fear!
This is the situation for anyone who lives in the light of the
truth, it is only the assurance from the Word of God about grace, about
remission of sins, about forgiveness, about Jesus atonement that can
keep one from falling into this state of extreme weariness! It is
exactly such kind of assurance He will give you, you who have an anxious
heart to day because you look at yourself and everything that is wrong!:
Do not fear! Because see...!
Jesus always points at the reason why you shall not fear. It is not
like when we human beings are trying to comfort one another, often
without any guarantee at all. It often becomes a guarantee and an
assurance on loose ground!
But it is not like that, when the LORD comforts a person. It is
grounded on solid ground when He who carries the name God of all
comfort, in the Scripture (2 Cor. 1:3), speaks comfort unto you!
